HOW DO YOU IMPROVE ON PERFECTION?
As I write the title of review, my mind goes back to Atlantic City Fashion Week February 2021 and I begin to think….. and think…. and think….
It starts with my arrival at the Show Boat hotel in Atlantic City to show my Couture Collection, The House of Sofia. I have already had a good turn in New York as MovieStar GIO offered to transport my collection to the hotel as the dresses are so large it takes two people to carry them. (He is an Angel on Earth).
COUTURE DESIGNER RAY VINCENTE
Once I arrive EVERYTHING goes smooth, check-in is a breeze, the lady remembered me from last season and gives me a fabulous room. As I walk toward my room, I’m thinking of the hours of steaming I have in front of me, I had to shrink down the dresses to TRY to fit them into the suitcase……
12 hours and 2 streamers later, my collection is ready to hit the runway, it’s 4am and we have a 9am designer & model call time….. I’m ready….. bringing the collection down highlights another challenge, we can only carry two dresses at a time and it takes two people to carry them so they don’t drag on the ground….. we incorporate the help of Couture Menswear designer Ray Brown, somehow, we make it downstairs early 8:15am.
COUTURE DESIGNER LUTHER PARKER
We attend the designer and model meeting. At the entrance, you have to turn in a filled-out COVID form and they take down every person’s name and temperature so if there is any spread, they have contact tracing at their fingertips. The Executive Producers, “Celebrity Power Couple” Lamont & Jeana Bowling give an overview of the day and we are now ready for the fitting. The fitting goes smooth as silk, as they have already sent the models compcards in December. All of the Models have to wear plastic face shields, the only time they can take them off is when they go on the runway. All that is left is to wait for the show……
COUTURE DESIGNER AMIR BLACK
Director of Media John Staples and his team have set up a photo shoot for my collection. He has chosen 3 models and it is conducted right in the walk way inside the hotel….THEY STOP TRAFFIC….OMG…what an honor, I’m interviewed by their marketing director, Kulture – I cannot thank you enough.
Supermodel/MovieStar, GIO is in the show, this man is the true meaning of mastering your craft, as I walk backstage from the photoshoot, there he is practicing his walk on the runway, he is not sitting around talking or picking up phone numbers, he is working on his runway walk. He is in his ZONE. I LOVE this SuperStar, aka The Hardest Working Man in the Fashion business.
COUTURE DESIGNER RJ BRANDS
Showtime arrives, I’m in the 7pm Couture segment, they have a SOLD-OUT HOUSE, I’m excited. At 5pm they put the show order up (just like NY FW) and I burst into tears to see that I am CLOSING THE SHOW. I cannot believe I have been given such and honor, my good friend Ray Brown is excited for me also. I’m so happy.
Backstage, all the designers are networking, no catty stuff, no negativity, we are all complimenting each other’s collections, assisting designers dress the models that are before us and helping retrieve their garments once they finish, helping models with their walks and following each on Instagram. It’s unbelievable, it’s like WOW, we can work together, I’m seeing it right before my eyes.
COUTURE DESIGNER KOURTNEY MURPHY
Finally, it’s my turn, all my models are dressed and ready to go and then I hear “our Featured Couture Designer for the evening, The House of Sofia” I start crying again, I’m so honored. (I have to cry and hold the big yellow dress so it does not get caught on anything LOL).
THE HOUSE OF SOFIA
As I take the walk down the runway with my Brand Ambassador, SuperModel/CoverGirl Alana Dickerson “The Closer”, I’m cannot believe the applauds, everyone is screaming and clapping, yelling The House of Sofia. I am humbled. Thank you all.
Once backstage, my models head for the red carpet to be photographed by Fashion Photographer Paul A. Walker @Shootmenycmodels, there are tons of photographers capturing the collection….. I am so grateful for this moment.
After all is said and done, I have sold 4 outfits from my collection…… one designer sold his ENTIRE COLLECTION before he left the show, I purchased a Couture cape from Ray Brown, this is a show where you will sell garments. (I encourage designers to register before they sell out.)
As I am writing this review, I am reliving every single moment, I am searching my memory and cannot come up with any flaws…..the show was PERFECTION……. Started on time, sold out show, full media pit, great beauty team, backstage model coordinators, show schedule up, models ready with Hair & Make up DONE, no complaints from anyone, it’s like MAGIC….
If you have not attended Atlantic City Fashion Week, I’m telling you PLEASE get your tickets EARLY, make a weekend of it, like a mini vacation. It’s money well spent. You will attend a show that starts and finishes on time, it’s PROFESSIONAL, they have security, vendors, etc., and you can support independent fashion designers.
How can you improve on PERFECTION…….? ACFW, just keep on doing it YOUR WAY
